OJ Simpson Memorabilia

OJ Simpson's football career stands as one of the most statistically exceptional in NFL history. The 1968 Heisman Trophy winner at USC, Simpson was selected 1st overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 1969 NFL Draft, launching a professional career that would rewrite the record books. In 1973, Simpson became the first player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a single season — finishing with 2,003 yards on 332 carries, a record that stood for nine years and remains one of the most celebrated individual season performances in the sport's history. He was named NFL Rushing Champion twice (1972, 1973) and was selected to the Pro Bowl five times. The Bills retired his #32 in his honor, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985.

Simpson also had a notable stint with the San Francisco 49ers (1978–1979) after his Bills career, adding Bay Area franchise memorabilia to his collector profile. His legacy is evaluated strictly within the context of his on-field accomplishments — his 1973 season, his Heisman at USC, his Hall of Fame induction, and his historic place in NFL rushing history. Simpson passed away in April 2024, a development that has drawn renewed collector attention to his authenticated memorabilia.

The 2,003-Yard Season

Simpson's 1973 campaign with the Buffalo Bills is the statistical touchstone for his entire career. Running behind the "Electric Company" offensive line, he broke Jim Brown's single-season rushing record (1,863 yards) by a historic margin. The 2,003-yard mark was not surpassed until Eric Dickerson ran for 2,105 yards in 1984. Memorabilia items referencing "2003 Yds" or "1973" carry a meaningful premium among collectors who appreciate the historical significance of that singular season.
