Gale Sayers Memorabilia

Authenticated Gale Sayers Autographed Memorabilia

Gale Sayers — "The Kansas Comet" — was one of the most electrifying runners in NFL history, and with his passing in September 2020, the supply of authenticated Gale Sayers autographed memorabilia is permanently fixed. Every signed item at Pristine Marketplace includes a Certificate of Authenticity and tamper-evident hologram from industry-leading authentication partners including PSA, JSA, and Beckett.

The Most Explosive Runner of His Era

Selected fourth overall by the Chicago Bears in the 1965 NFL Draft out of the University of Kansas, Sayers made an immediate and unforgettable impact. In his rookie season, he scored 22 touchdowns — an NFL record that stood for nearly four decades — including an astonishing six touchdowns in a single game against the San Francisco 49ers on December 12, 1965. That performance, in rain and mud at Wrigley Field, saw Sayers score on an 80-yard pass, a 21-yard run, a 7-yard run, a 50-yard run, a 1-yard run, and an 85-yard punt return.

A Career Cut Short

Sayers earned four Pro Bowl selections in his first five seasons and led the NFL in rushing in 1966 (1,231 yards) and 1969 (1,032 yards). His career was tragically shortened by knee injuries — first a devastating right knee injury in 1968, and then a left knee injury in 1970. Despite playing only 68 games across seven seasons (1965-1971), Sayers amassed 4,956 rushing yards, 9,435 all-purpose yards, and 56 total touchdowns. His 30.56 career kickoff return average remains one of the highest in NFL history.

Youngest Hall of Famer and Brian's Song

In 1977, Sayers was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame at age 34, becoming the youngest inductee in history at that time. His deep friendship with teammate Brian Piccolo — who died of cancer in 1970 — was immortalized in the acclaimed 1971 film "Brian's Song," one of the most emotionally powerful sports stories ever told. Sayers dedicated his George S. Halas Courage Award to Piccolo in a speech that moved the nation.
